I plan to use an old fridge as an outdoor bin here in hot and humid East Texas. I read that you had to replace door on the fridge; did you drill holes for air flow in the lid? I'm more concerned with summer months and keeping the worms cool. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing such valuable info! We are getting ready to install our old fridge in the backyard. We, too, are in CO, so it's great to see your successes!

The worms are doing great. I did add some more insulation and a 2 gal. container of water with an aquarium heater buried in the center of the bin. I don't think it would have frozen but we were getting hammered with sub zero weather and I wanted a little insurance. I just checked in on them today and they are looking great and were ready for more food. I will try to get some updated pictures in a few weeks.

Very 'cool' Tina. I love this idea. It's something I could do pretty easily. I also see the artistic side coming out in me with wanting to paint the outside of the fridge with large worms or something of that sort. :)
