Worm Business Directory Help Page
First of all, I just want to thank you for taking the time to visit this page and thanks also for your interest in the Worm Composting Business Directory. I put this page together in an effort provide some background info regarding the directory, and to help reduce the amount of confusion relating to submissions etc. I’ve opted to structure this page like an FAQ page so I can address the types of questions I’m sure people might be having. I’ve highlighted topics I feel are particularly important.
NOTE: If you have submitted a link or are planning to submit a link, you should also sign up for my directory email list since this is the only way I can keep everyone up to date on directory changes etc.

Will There Be Other Opportunities to Help Me Promote My Business?
Does it Cost Anything?
There is NO charge for submitting your site, nor are you required to link back to the directory. That being said, I will be very grateful for any and all links that people point towards the directory and will make a list of all those people who have done so (be sure to email me if you do). I can’t guarantee any special gifts or prizes (haha) but you will definitely be in my ‘good books’ and there may be other opportunities that come up as a result.
There will be opportunities for increased exposure on the directory (and other promotional tools/opportunities in general) should you decide you want even more people to be aware of your business. All of these ‘other opportunities’ will develop over time, and I will be sure to keep you up to date via directory list mail-outs. In the meantime, my goal is to get as many businesses listed in the directory as possible.
Who Can Submit Links?
Anyone with a business that relates to vermicomposting. If you sell composting worms, worm composting systems and supplies, worm tea, worm castings, or even worm-related information you are more than welcome to submit. If you have a hobby or educational site, please do not submit it. I want to keep commercial ventures separated from all others in order to eliminate confusion. I will be working hard to develop other opportunities for non-businesses to toot their vermicomposting horns before too long as well.
Do I Need a Website to Submit a Link?
No, a website is not required in order for you to be able to submit a link. Only those form fields with red stars beside them are required (just leave the ‘URL’ field blank). I want this directory to be as accessible as possible, and realize that not everyone is online yet. In fact, I’m REALLY excited about the possibility of listing a lot of worm businesses that many people don’t know exist. I have a feeling there are more out there than people realize. It should be mentioned that while you don’t need a website, you DO however need an email address. I don’t think this will create too many headaches since most people have email these days, and if not can easily get signed up with one of the free email providers (such as Hotmail or Gmail).
Can I Submit More Than One Link?
You cannot submit your link to more than one category or multiple times in a given category. If you happen to have multiple worm business websites all promoting the same business please don’t submit them all – just submit your main one. If you are a much larger organization and happen to own multiple (different) worm businesses then by all means add them. I will be reviewing all submissions by hand and will get in touch with any that raise questions. I also reserve the right to reject any submissions I feel are inappropriate or that are efforts at gaming the system.
How Do I Submit Links?
Simply click on the “submit a link” navigation button at the top of the page, then fill in all your information. As mentioned, only those boxes with a red star beside them are required, BUT I strongly encourage everyone to fill out the address/contact info etc since this will greatly help people who are looking for businesses in their area. Make sure to select the country or continent that is most applicable to you (eg. If you are from India simply add your link there, not in the ‘Asia’ category). I am going to further sort these later (adding new country/regional subcategories as appropriate) once I get a feel for the regions being represented, so don’t worry if it seems too general in places. Please let me know if there isn’t an appropriate category for you (i.e. if I have somehow managed to leave out a continent – haha) and I’ll be sure to add it.
I’ve enabled the Google Maps feature but am not 100% how (or if) it works – please bear with me as I test these things out.
In What Order Are Businesses Listed in the Directory?
The default setting for listings is currently alphabetical order, although I would like to reward those businesses who sign up first (going to look into re-ordering based on sign-up date). I don’t foresee this causing any major issues either way. I imagine many categories will only have a few businesses listed so most business owners will have the opportunity to be found.
What are ‘Articles’? Can They Be Submitted Too?
I am still familiarizing myself with the ‘Articles’ feature of this directory software, but rest assured this is definitely something I want to have available in the near future since they will be a great way to add value to the site while also rewarding those business owners who submit them. For the time being however, please do not attempt to submit articles. I will let everone know when that feature is available.
Why Did You Start the Worm Composting Business Directory?
That is a GREAT question, and I’m glad you asked (haha)! I started this directory for multiple reasons, but a big part of it has to do with my desire to help more people get involved with vermicomposting, and more worm businesses to get connected with potential customers. One thing people ask me a LOT is “where should I buy my worms”? I often recommend that people try to find businesses in their area, but unfortunately there are a lot of worm businesses that are not online, or at least not easily found. As someone who is quite well-versed in web marketing/development, and also just happens to be hugely passionate about vermicomposting, I think I’m in a unique position to really help a lot of worm people get connected. As far as I can tell, there really aren’t too many well-known worm composting directories (or business listings) online, so it can be challenging for would-be worm composters to find suppliers. With the popularity of Red Worm Composting (website) continuing to gain momentum each month, I think it’s only natural that I add a resource like this to the site.
**UDATE (May, 2008)** – After considerable thought and what seems to be a lack of interest (in the directory) in the worm farming industry, I’ve decided to start my own vermicomposting business. Nothing will be changing with the directory – I still encourage any and all worm businesses to sign up. I also won’t be using the directory for excessive self-promotion (I’ve added one regular listing for my business, just like everyone else). Believe it or not, I am still interested in helping other worm farmers promote themselves – the way I see it, if there are more of us spreading the word about vermicomposting it can only lead to a better future for all of us.
Will There Be Other Opportunities to Help Me Promote My Business?
Yes there will. As mentioned above, there will not only be future opportunities for increased exposure on the directory itself (I will be implementing “featured links” sections for those interested in appearing in more prominent positions), but there will be other promotional opportunities in general. I won’t say more than that for the time being, but will certainly keep everyone abreast of any new developments. Please make sure you have signed up for my directory email list (not to be confused with my main Red Worm Composting list) so that you don’t miss anything.
