Hi Bob,
Standing water can certainly attract mosquitoes. I should mention however that these water holders are covered, so that seems to help discourage mosquitos from laying eggs (I guess the chironomid midges are smaller and able to get under the lid). You can also add 'mosquito dunks' which will release a bacterium that kills the larvae of mosquitoes (and similar insects).

Great to hear about you starting your own worm bin! Keep me posted.

Bentley, since signing on to your site, I have followed all of your thoughts and projects with great interest. I do wonder though if your standing microbial water experiment would serve to attract a large number of mosquitoes and their larvae?

I have begun my first worm bin with 50 red wigglers from Petsmart. I was unsuccessful finding anything else nearby. I am using 4 each 1 quart plastic coffee containers setting in 3 liter coke bottles with bottoms cut off to catch liquid. I was hesitant to start with a large bin because of the intense heat (95+ degrees in San Antonio) everyday. Also my wife is not as enthusiastic as I am about keeping worms in the house, so I'll have to prove to her there is nothing to fear. I added the worms this past Tuesday, 7/22, I'll keep you posted. Keep up the good work, I'm enjoying all of your websites and I have visited a lot of your links. Thanks, Bob
