Worm Inn Mega – 09-16-14

Sorry it’s been SO LONG since my last Worm Inn Mega update!

😆

Goofball antics aside, I just wanted to provide a brief follow-up to my last Mega post. As you may recall, I didn’t add my usual layer of bedding when I fed last Thursday.

What’s interesting is that the level has been dropping down quite quickly since then – and the upper zone is absolutely crawling with worms.

I decided to “push my luck” a bit today by adding even more food – just over 10 lb (brings the total to ~ 84 lb) – along with a THICK layer of living material over top. Again, I chose not to add ANY dry bedding this time (although, I should point out that there was some bedding already mixed in with the food).

I am curious to see what happens if I continue to use this approach. I have a hunch that the overall level of material will drop a fair bit as unprocessed materials further down decompose.

Perhaps I won’t need to harvest quite as soon as I anticipated!

Stay tuned!
😎

Can’t wait to see what happens!

  1. Hello, Bentley…Are you still the primary partner with the Garden Tower folks as it relates to vermiculture? If so, I have some questions for you about the Tower and its worm tube. My garden tower has not yet arrived, and I am using the time until it gets here to get up to date on vermiculture so I am ready. There seem to be lots of folks out there explaining how to do vermiculture in a bin. But not so much info on how to do it in the Garden Tower. The instructions on the GT site are quite vague. Do you have experience using it, and if so, could you guide me, as I am not only a novice to GT, but also to vermiculture. Taking on a lot right now. Please help point me in the right direction.

    Hi Mary Jo
I’ve never actually been a partner of the Garden Tower, let alone the “primary partner”. lol
At least not in any official sense. I have written about their project/product in the past, but that’s about it (have never even used one of the units). I think they might have a Facebook group or page where you could likely ask questions. Just checked, and found this Fanpage:
    https://www.facebook.com/GardenTowerProject

Also, if you refer to the online information about using “worm towers”, that should be quite relevant for use of a Garden Tower as well.
