Alisa Glenn!
I finally got around to determining winners for two of our Vermivember 2012 (OH YES, I plan on doing it again! lol) contests – the “Vermi-Humor Challenge”, and the “Vermicomposting ‘HOW’ & ‘WHY'” contest (a private contest held via the Vermivember email list). I thought the submissions of our Vermi-Humor winner we SO cool that I decided to dedicate a post solely to them. The other winners, and honorable mentions will be included in another upcoming post (and similar for the other contest as well).
Aside from being a very talented cartoonist, what I really like about Alisa is her quirky sense of humor – it reminds me a lot of my own in some ways (although not as goofy and/or silly! lol). She submitted two cartoons for the contest itself, and one additional one (third one below) afterwards.
I thought both submissions were great, but the irresistible charm of her Christmas Candy Cane Worm really won me over!
Holiday Stress – Worm Style
This little guy has some big problems. He’s getting a rash from his stripe paint, his digestion is wrecked from hanging about and he likely has a fruitcake in his future. Not to mention the embarrassment if the other worms find out he was forced to impersonate a candy cane. For a movie reference, Star Trek, you’ll have to imagine the worm with a Dr. McCoy like scowl saying “I’m a worm, not a candy cane!”
The joke in this next one is a wee bit obscure, but when Alisa explained it to me I definitely had a good chuckle. For those of you unfamiliar with the term “saving it for the worms”, it is something that was said (or at least one of the variations of something said) back in the “olden days” when the…uhhh…friendly advances of potential male suitors were rejected by young ladies (i.e. “What, are you saving it for the worms?!”).
Used as a vermicomposting joke I think it’s very effective!

Alisa’s last cartoon demonstrates that her sense of humor can be…well…a little bit on the twisted side (yuk, yuk)!
Let me extend a BIG congratulations to our winner! Alisa will be receiving a Worm Factory 360 (compliments of our good friends at Nature’s Footprint) + 1 lb of Red Worms (compliments of ME!!!! lol).

Lmao, those were pretty good! XD! The last one took me a moment to realize the balloon animal was a worm!
LoL – same here. I was wondering why the balloon animal had little “x”s for eyes and a tongue sticking out…then it hit me! lol

Fantastic stuff Alisa made me laugh out loud for the first time thanks. Very professional as well. you should try for Warner Bro’s. You have a big talent there and you should use it.
I worked for zoom tunes when i was a kid 1987( painting cells every day after day? ) no need for that now? You go for it YES!!!!!!!!! You have a big future.

Well, I got the balloon animal wormies right away from their little body stripes so what kind of sick old lady have I turned into??? And I love the talking worm candy cane. Wonderful stuff. Thank you to everyone for the contest entries and the laughs.
How do I start a worm bed? Do I just dump some in it? And they start to multiply?
