Plum Worm Inn

It seems rather appropriate on this, our 600th blog post party day, to announce that we have a rather snazzy new Worm Inn design available!

I have updated the Worm Inn page, so the Plum design is now available in the drop-down selection menus. You’ll likely notice that I also added a new photo showing all the available designs (thanks to Jerry for sending me that great pic!).

A few things to mention…

1) In case you are wondering, the PVC stands shown in these new photos have been painted black. The corner pieces and zip ties that come in the stand kit are white.

2) Speaking of the stand kit – Jerry has been nice enough to let me continue including it with all Worm Inn orders. Let me remind everyone, though, that the kit ONLY contains the corner pieces and zip ties. Shipping costs associated with sending all the lengths of PVC piping would simply be too high. You can easily purchase the piping at most hardware stores (got mine from Home Depot), and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

3) I am thinking about starting up some sort of “Win a Worm Inn” contest soon, and would love to get some ideas from readers. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments section.

Wow!! I love the new color…just wish they had it 2 days ago when I ordered mine. Any chance I could trade?

  1. Has anyone tried this system with Euros? I’d be interested in your observations if you have. Thanks.

How about folks submit how they got involved with worm composting,or why! All the entrants go into a hat,and you draw a name in a youtube video you post.It would have to be in a short paragraph though.May even help figure out the realm of what worm composting covers!

Not a problem, Karen – I still have not sent you your confirmation email (sorry about that) so we can easily switch the order around.
    ————–
Mike – I myself tried it once and didn’t have great luck, BUT I suspect it was due to the fact that I didn’t take good care of that particular Inn and also didn’t really give them long enough to get settled in. My Euros all went down to the bottom. I definitely want to try a Euro worm inn again though.
Perhaps Jerry will share his thoughts here as well.

a contest with worms how awesome! what about something like the fattest red worm or the most cacoon consintrations in a bin? just some thouhts.

Larry & Jeffy – thanks for the ideas.

I’m thinking it will need to be something creative that I (or all of us) can judge and vote for. As much as I’ve love to see lots of fat worm pics etc (you know you are a Worm Head when…haha), I just think it will be tough to determine for sure who the winner really is – we can’t have an official weigh-in, or cocoon counting event etc.

Will give all of this some more thought. Thanks again

Hello, just thought I’d mention there is a camping stand that works with the Worm Inn for anyone who’s not sure about building the plastic one ;). It can be found in Canadian Tire also for us up north.

    Pic of the setup

It is a lot lower, I’ll have to scoop stuff out onto a plastic sheet I think or raise it up somehow for havesting. But for me the lower height works well as it’s the same as the table. Stand is rated up to 100lbs

    Cheers,
    Peter

I have heard of other sites doing contests where people send in pics with a theme then everyone on the site votes on which they think is the funniest, most appropriate etc. Just a thought.

  2. Got my Worm Inn yesterday. It is all set up waiting for the worms. But would love to win another one.
Jerry sent me an email said in Hawaiie they call the Worm Inn The Worm Hang Out.

  3. Hi Fellow RWC Fans,

For those that don’t know me, I’m the Jerry being referred to here. I’m the manufacture of The Worm Inn.

To answer Michaels earlier question…I’ve raised European Nightcrawlers in The Worm Inn without any problems. In fact, I can’t think of a Worm Bin that does well with Red Wigglers, but not European Nightcrawlers.

I haven’t raised African Nightcrawlers in The Worm Inn myself, but I have customers that have raised African Nightcrawlers in The Worm Inn very successfully.

Since Bentley’s contest seems to be creating quite a bit of excitement….I’ll throw in another Worm Inn so Bentley can sweeten the pot. 🙂

Paula, when you get a bunch of baby worms,i would call it the worm inn crib!
When i can get one,i will.Because as Jerry points out,the different worm specie in one.I would like to see what my blue worms do in one, with my redworms, and my euros.
Think about it.Perionyx like the top dryer stuff.Ef like it a little wetter. And euros like it even wetter. This is why i believe my large flowthru is working so good.Would it work with only one worm?Sure! But if it ain’t broke, why fix it?
I’m hoping my few ANC are still in there.I haven’t found any on the ground that i can tell.
BY the way!Jerry, thanks for sweetening the pot.Gives “Mark from Kansas”an extra chance to win one to hang off the side of his big flowthru.I can picture it now! That thing would be cool if he could have one in a hornets nest material pattern. Just a thought. That would be one neat looking Worm inn! Just don’t get confused and harvest a hornets nest! Ha Ha!!

Peter – Love the stand! Very cool
    —-
Mike – I definitely like the photo idea. I think that will be the direction to head for sure! Makes it easy to share the entries on the site!
Perhaps we should revive the creative worm food contest idea or something along those lines
    —-
Jerry – WOW, thanks! I’ll toss in some worms as well.
    1st prize – worm inn + 1lb of worms
    2nd – worm inn
    3rd – 1lb of worms

  4. Hi Bentley, I went and bought the PVC pipe for my Worm Inn Stand. Cust under $10.00 Actually $8.84 and that was with the pvc pipe primer $1.45 each. The guy at Menards even cut the pieces for me. I had asked can I use a box cutter to cut it. (Knowing darn well I can’t) Well he looked at me and said well let me cut if for you young lady (points for him)
So I put it together and it was easy. I kind of freaked because I had two pieces of pvc left over but that was just left over pipe.
Im not going to spray paint it because it is to cold out side and don’t want to be spraying paint in my basement.

contest idea: why not incorporate one of your experiments and the worm inn? even something simple like starting with a pound or set number of worms in the inn, contestants guess how much weight or number of worms after a month.

i’d happily run this contest experiment – just send me the required materials.
