Sorry Zachary - have been missing some approval-needed comments lately. Good news is you should be ok to post directly from here on out.

What you describe is fairly normal - even when wastes are optimized (although I don't think I would ever have odor issues if only adding a pound or so at a time). My advice is to make sure the wastes are balanced with bedding - ideally spread out in a depression/trench and then covered over with worm-worked material from the system along with cover bedding.

I have also been keeping my zippered lid partially open to increase air flow - probably seems counterintuitive (open = more stink?) but oxygenation should help the odors to dissipate.

Hey Bentley, I am at a similar spot in setting up my UWB as the above post (a week in, give or take). I had a question about odors. I have found in my previous bin set up - and am experiencing again with the UWB - that I get a few days of "garbage" smell after adding in scraps; especially those that have been frozen and thawed.

I thought it might be due to poor(er) air flow in the bin, but since it is also happening with my UWB, I figured I might as well post and see what you think.

Do you have the same issue?

FYI, I only add a pound or so at a time.

Thanks,
z

Hey Richard - thanks for chiming in. The Vermibagg (could have sworn it used to be "Vermibag") does look like a solid system with a similar design (as Worm Inn, UWB etc) - and I have even had a friendly email exchange with the owner in the past.

Not really sure what you are referring to when you say "more complete" and "design issues" (implying UWB might have some).

As always, the proof is in the pudding! I have no comments to make either way because I have never used a Vermibagg. Have you used both a Vermibagg AND an UWB?
My hunch is that they are both effective!

I believe you should try out the Vermibagg system, it actually looks like a more complete system with almost zero design issues. I would say it trumps the urban worm bag.
