Hi Nomar – the question of “too much” depend on a lot of different factors. What sort of system you are using, how well aged the coffee grounds are (and whether or not they are mixed with anything else, what kind of coffee grounds they are (fine grind, coarse grind etc) etc.
In this particular case, it looks like it may have been “too much” simply based on the fact that the bin is now overheating.
Moderation is always the best way to go with grounds – at least initially.

Oh, and how much used coffee grounds is too much? 1 inch layer, 1/2 inch layer or does it matter?

Similar to the Worm Inn overfeeding challenge, it certainly wouldn’t take too long to accumulate that amount of (purely) food waste – eg the amount of food waste added to my winter worm food bin yesterday was likely more than 16 lb – but yeah, it’s definitely nowhere near our daily output or anything like that! lol

Well taht makes me feel better. That is about 90% of my food as well. In my head I just imagined your worm inn project.

Although we do tend to accumulate a fair amount of actual food waste over time, it’s important to note that most of the weight in this case comes from the coffee grounds (I pick up a couple of garbage cans worth of this material every week from a local coffee shop).

I just wish I could generate 16 pounds of food waste! I went to the local farmer’s market to see what scraps tehy have, but there was more fruit fly by weight than bad fruit.
I always forget to “confirm” that I am not a spammer. 🙂
