Sow bugs are fantastic to have - they help to shred more resistant materials. I find that they tend not to thrive in the same conditions that worms do, though. If you have a lot of them you MAY have let things get a little too dry. I think the concern about sow bugs and plant destruction is definitely overblown - they are mainly feed on dead decaying matter.

I think I got sow bugs in my appartment compost bin (bin is about 24 litre). Should I be worried about this or can I just let them stay with my worms and be happy that my bin is more biologically complex? I read somwhere that they can harm plants, so could this be the problem if I transfer hummus from my bin to my home plants?

Interesting info about potato bugs preferring dryer conditions than worms. I went out to check my beds and I actually had more potato bugs than I remembered. I started thinking that I haven't watered as much as I did last year because I am waiting for rain to help me out.

Hi Patricia,
I'm pretty sure that 'Potato Bug' is yet another of the (potentially misleading) common names.
