Hi Everyone,

I have recently found this site and have been reading through entries, mainly on the worm inn, and also some other off-shoots in my free time the last couple of days. Really informative! Thanks! I am considering buying a worm inn to use the vc to help enrich the 50/50 soil/compost mix that I will be putting in my newly built garden beds. I have four beds that are 8' x 4' x 20" deep.

Most of the entries over the last couple years talk about how much, and what to put in the worm in, but there is not much mentioned (or I could have missed it) on how much vc is harvested in proportion too input. Perhaps someone could help answer a few questions I have...

Is the output weight of vc equal or similar to input food/bedding weight?
If "x" amount of food (in weight or cups) is put in, how long will it take to get "y" amount of vc (in weight or cups)? Weeks? Months?
How much and how often should I add the harvested vc to my beds? (Last one is clearly a newbie question :))

Would love to hear back. Thanks!

I always put a good top layer of old VC with my worm inn. It sits about 6 feet behind the livingroom sofa so smell is not an option. With this method I never get smells. I also find with watering the top, the top layer gets populated with worms very quickly and they seem to work from the top down as well as the bottom up. Highly recommend to anyone else to have a side bucket of harvest VC for this usage.

PS. It's the only thing I've found to stop broccoli from smelling no matter what.
