5000 Facebook Fan Fest!

It’s FINALLY here, folks! The Red Worm Composting “5000 Facebook Fan Fest!
After having so much fun with our “1000 Facebook Fan Fest” back in the spring, I decided we should do it again! Of course, this time around I wanted to make it even BIGGER and BETTER than before (somehow I don’t think the “2000 Facebook Fan Fest” would really cut it – haha)!

We’ve got a much BIGGER goal to shoot for; there are MORE (and BETTER) prizes to win. There are even MORE opportunities to win! It’s gonna be a blast!
8)

OK – the first order of business is to hammer out some official rules here – PLEASE READ THE RULES CAREFULLY before participating!

Da RULES

  • You may choose 5 Dates (possible dates for the RWC Fan Page hitting the 5000 fan mark) – UPDATE: See new rules (in red) down below
  • Aside from leaving comments here (for the benefit of others and to make it more fun!), YOU MUST email me (not Mark) your official entry in order to qualify. Please include your first and last name (general location would be great, but not critical), your 5 dates (year, month, day), and include “Contest” or “Facebook” in your subject line. No email, no entry in contest! Okely dokely?
  • Unlike the first contest, multiple people can choose the same date – all those who choose the correct date will have their names tossed in a hat and winners will be drawn. If there aren’t enough people on the winning date, the two closest dates will be used (and those names will be drawn for remaining prizes), and so on and so forth
  • The deadline for getting your entry in is Thursday, November 25, 2010 (likely a familiar date for my American friends) at midnight EST
  • Speaking of “EST”, that will be the “official” time zone for winning date (in case we hit the mark near midnight like last time!)
  • “Mark from Kansas” IS eligible to participate (since I know Larry Duke is going to ask!) LOL
  • Unfortunately, most of the prizes will only be available to those living in (mainland) USA and Canada – but there will be some “bonus prizes” (to be announced at a later date) available regardless of location
  • Prizes MAY change between now and the end of the contest – but they can only get better (or remain the same).

**Important Rule Update (Oct. 11)** – I’ve decided to reward those who don’t wait until the last minute to submit their dates for the contest. Here is the breakdown in terms of how many guesses you are entitled to, based on when you send them in.

Oct 11-Oct 16: 8 dates
Oct 17-Oct 31: 7 dates
Nov 1-Nov 15: 6 dates
Nov 16-Nov 25: 5 dates

All those who have submitted thus far are allowed to send me three additional dates.
Thanks!

PRIZES

1st Place – 2 lb of Red Worms + Worm Inn (and stand kit) + Bonus Prize
2nd Place – 1 lb of Red Worms + 1 lb of European Nightcrawlers + Bonus Prize
3rd Place – 1 lb of Red Worms OR 1 lb of European Nightcrawlers (your choice) + Bonus Prize
4th Place – Bonus Prize

OK – clear as mud?
🙂

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments section – and again, please DO tell everyone your chosen dates here as well so that we can all see what dates people are choosing (but of course, don’t forget to email me your “official” entry).

On a semi-related note, I wanted to take the opportunity to “share the love” a bit with our last two interview participants. Both Heather and Maria have their own Facebook Fan Pages, so please do “like” those pages while you are in Facebook mode. Here they are:

Texas Worm Ranch (Heather Rinaldi)
Byoearth (Maria Rodriguez)

UPDATE: Cristy has also created a Facebook fan page now as well. Be sure to give her a “like” while you are at it: SLO County Worms

Oh – one other thing. In the spirit of the contest please “like” the heck out of this blog post (button below), and blast out some “tweets” (if you are a tweeter on Twitter! haha). I myself, while certainly a “twit”, have yet to get really active on Twitter. One of these days, though, I tell ya I’m just going to break out and go crazy with it! I can feel it!
😆

(@CompostGuy, in case you are curious)

THANKS EVERYONE!!

B-Mazing! You knew my first question! If i was talking about “Mark from Kansas”,it would be M-Azing!HE HEEEE!!!
I’m going to have to do some real calculating before i cast my votes.I think i was one day off last time.
Might as well ask some of my goofy questions!
Can you win all four prizes? If yes,do you win four bonus prizes? Can you donate your prize to someone else?If you can’t contact someone, say they moved, how do you decide the next winner? Is Letty aloud to tell Mark which days he needs to pick,or can you make him take a wild guess?:-)Are my Redworms allowed to enter,i named one Bentley,it may get confusing? Okay,i’m done!

  1. A Worm Inn, now we’re talking! Hmmm…. tempting Mr. B.
I’ll have do some serious calculating.

Larry Duke is hereby disqualified from the contest!
    😆
(but has now been re-instated since he named one of his worms after me)
    ————-
MARK – Get our your calculator, but don’t forget to factor in some extra “Ooooomph” power. Call me an optimist, but I think we may just start to see those numbers creeping up at a faster rate in coming months!

Thanks Nic and Anna for chiming in with your dates. I am definitely starting to think that I need to find a way to reward the early birds – last thing I want to see is a zillion entries right before the deadline! Plus, I suppose there must be some sort of advantage to seeing where everyone else is guessing before adding your own.

Hmmmm…perhaps the early birds will get extra ballots (if it comes to a draw) – or even a few extra guesses. Let me think about this

I was actually waiting to see if all “Mark from Kansas” pics were on the same day, with different times.Because he probably has an exact mathematical formula figured in where he hits 5000 pounds on the same day.
I need to find someone in Kansas to check and see if they have a county fair on certain dates that has one of those large pumpkin growing contests.Because i figure Mark has dibbs on at least a couple of those 8oo pound failures. Then depending on the sequencing of traffic lights where he lives(only two)he just has to guess how many cuts to slide them over the edge of the bin! In Kansas a pumpkin parade is probably over by 4:37 PM.So he may be a day off! I’m picking the day before and the day after. Then i got a shot at that worm inn!

Hi Everyone – Important update. I’ve decided to reward the “early birds”. You will find my new rules in red above. All those of you who have submitted are now entitled to three more dates (and everyone else who gets a submission in by Oct 15 is entitled to 8 votes as well).

    Thanks!

Bentley, again thank’s for the contest. No matter who wins it,it brings some excitement to worm folks.I still can’t actually figure out how many surfaces a “worm inn” has! If i win it,i’m going to set it up,and just stare at it for a couple of days. The only answer i have is,all surfaces.
I actually have the same date as one of Mark’s.If i win it on that date,i’m letting Letty have it.I just have to see that thing hanging off the side of Mark’s flowthru. If it falls on valentines day,i’m keeping it,because i love worms!
I think i know when that pumpkin festival is in Kansas now! It’s the same as everyone elses. The day after halloween, when they go to the curb for garbage pickup.Mark may hit 3000 pounds real quick here soon.I’m watching that counter real close!:-)

OK, folks – just so ya know. I’ve decided to be a wee bit more lenient with this first “deadline” (8 guesses) since I still have not made the new guide available (next day or so). Once I send the email out for that, I’ll give people one last chance to get their guesses in and then that will be that – so Cristy, be sure to send me in one more guess!

OK, so lets say you have 5,000 people on your site. If each one of them sent just one worm to the first 5 people in this comments list, then each person would receive 5+ lbs of worms. Their names get remove, and then, everyone sends the next 5 people just one worm… no, wait, uhm, how does that work again???

    • Bentley
    • November 1, 2010

Hey Don – you get one more vote (6 total – until Nov 15 when it drops to 5).
Your little scenario made my head hurt – reminded me of one of those annoying high school math problems!! LOL
“If one vermicomposter leaves Detroit traveling a 5 miles per hour, carrying 3 lb of Red Worms in a 15 gallon tub, and another vermicomposter leaves Chicago, traveling at 3 miles per hour carrying a 5 gallon bucket with 2 lb of Red Worms – how long before they both give up and go home?”
